Problem

The Burton Cummings Theatre is one of only a handful of pre-World War I legitimate theatres in Canada. The Royal Alexandra in Toronto and The Royal Theatre in Victoria are the only two comparable examples.

We were approached to promote an evening of celebration at the theatre, which included Burton Cummings himself, to celebrate  not only the the rich history establishment but also the future prospects to grace the famous stage.

Solution

Cummings was born and raised in the Canadian city of Winnipeg, and was the obvious draw for the evening. We developed the wordmark, posters, invitations and program booklet. Our goal was to communicate the history of this fantastic theatre and the entertainers who have, and will, continue to perform there. We chose rich colours and colourful photography, inspiring a feeling of warmth to draw people to the event.

The superb photography highlighted not only the history of the performers but also the stunning interior of the theatre. These beautiful photographs combined with the exciting and contemporary typography really enhance the concept of re-living the past but also looking into the future.
